Can I remotely connect to mysql? YES!

Follow these simple instructions to remotely connect to mysql.

Before you can connect to MySQL, You must enable your computer as an access host. It may sound confusing, but CPanel makes this ver simpe. First, login to cpanel using yourdomain.com/cpanel. Then, on the main menu of CPanel, click [MySQL]. Now, scroll down to about mid way through the page until you see "Access Hosts:". Under that, you will see a list of all the IPs that are permitted to connect to your mysql databases. As default, only "localhost" will be listed. Directly under that, you will see "Host (% wildcard is allowed):" with a text field next to it. In that text field you can enter your computers IP address. After you
enter your IP address, click [Add Host] and your done. Your computer can now remotely connect to your mysql database(s).

How can I find out my computers IP address?

- Simple, just go to http://www.whatismyip.com/
http://www.ip2location.com/
http://ip2country.com/

Wait a minute, my IP constantly changes!

Okay, you have a dynamic IP address. Therefore, everytime you go online, or every once in awhile, your IP changes. You have a few options here. The most secure, would be to update your IP in "Allowed Hosts" in CPanel (under MySQL) everytime your IP changes. However, you do have other options available. However, you could simply enter "%" (a percentage sign) in the "access hosts" text filed in CPanel (under mysql). This would allow any IP to remotely connect via mysql. Another option: Lets say the first three parts of your IP never change. Then, you could enter 93.138.%.% , where the first two parts are your actual IP address numbers.

After your IP is added to the Access Hosts list:

First, you will have to create a mysql database and assign a user to it. Please see documentation on how to do this, as this article will assume you already have a database setup. Your username and password will be the username and password of the user assigned to the database.

Database name = cpanelusername_databasename

Database username = cpanelusername_databaseusername

MySQL Connection Port = 3306

Cpanel addon domain howto

An addon domain is a domain name that that points to a subdirectory within your account. For example, you may want yourdomain.com to point to mydomain.com/yourdomain/.

Addon domains must be registered domain names that you own and configured to point to your web site's servers.

To add a domain to your web site, follow these simple steps:

Change DNS / Name Servers for Addon Domain:
Your addon DNS must the same with your main DNS Domain.






The name servers for your addon domain are the name servers your main domain is using our DNS server.

Step 0: Update your addon domain's name servers!!!

Before you go to step 1, your addon domain MUST be
resolving to the server! Therefore, you will have to update your addon domain's name servers and wait 24-72 hours for your domain to propagate, before proceeding!

If your DNS not using our DNS configuration, change as soon as possible.

CPANEL HOSTING CONFIGURATION

Step 1: Login to cpanel

You can login to cpanel using http://yourdomain.com/cpanel

* replace "yourdomain.com" with the domain name of your main account.

Step 2: Click on the [Addon Domains] link on the main page.

This is link is on the main page of CPanel, first row, right hand side.

Step 3: Complete the addon domain process in CPanel.

Field 1: New Domain Name:

You would enter the domain name of your addon domain. For example: if the domain name you want to add is plasahosting.com, you would enter "plasahosting.com" in this field (without the quotation marks).

Field 2: Username/directory/subdomain Name:

In this field, you would enter the name of a new folder that will be created for your addon domain. You can make this folder name anything you want, but it must be a new folder, so make sure not to enter a name of a folder that already exists in your public_html directory.

lets assume we want the folder name to be myaddons, you would enter "myaddons" (without the quotation marks) into this field. Notice, you do not include any / (slashes) in this field. Also, linux files are case sensitive, so you will probably want to use all lowercase. To make things simple, use only lowercase letters. You cannot enter any spaces either, it must be a single word!

This is the name of the folder that will be created for your addon domain. THe folder will be placed in your public_html directory. You will upload all your web pages for this addon domain into this folder. Assuming you entered "myaddons" into this filed, you would upload your web pages to /public_html/myaddons/

Field 3: Password:

This will be the password for your new addon domain's FTP account. You can set the password to anything you want. However, you should only use letters and numbers, remembering it is case sentive.

STEP 4: Click [Add Domain!] and your done!

Now, upload all your files to the folder you created in Step 3, Field 2.

Final note: After you complete this process and upload your files, your addon domain still might not work. You may have to allow 24 hours to elapse for these changes to take effect. If your addon domain does not immediately display in your web browser, DO NOT delete your addon domain and recreate it! Please be patient and allow for these changes to take effect.

Manfaatkan FTP command line untuk upload file ke server

Apabila anda bekerja di warnet atau tempat lainnya yang tidak terinstall FTP Client Windows seperti WS_FTP, CuteFTP dan lainnya, anda bisa memanfaatkan FTP Client bawaan dari Windows.

Mungkin anda yang tidak familiar dengan perintah-
perintah FTP berikut saya sajikan beberapa trik untuk mentransfer file anda ke server hosting anda.

Bukalah Command Prompt yang ada di Windows.
Untuk windows 98 : Start - Program Files - MS-DOS Prompt.
Windows 2000/XP : Start - Program Files - Accesories - Command Prompt.

Pastikan terlihat C:windows> atau C:>

Bila data anda ada di Floppy Disk atau Drive A, pindahkan segera posisi Prompt DOS anda ke A dengan perintah.

Misalkan data anda ada di folder upload, pindahkan segera posisi anda dengan perintah

cd upload

Sekarang saatnya anda memanggil program FTP Client dan server hosting anda ada di alamat www.plasahosting.com, berikan perintah :

ftp www.plasahosting.com

maka akan terlihat mirip seperti dibawah :

Sampai disini anda sudah siap mengirim atau mengambil file anda yang berada di server. Biasanya file-file HTML anda akan diletakan di folder public_html. Lakukan pemindahan folder dengan perintah.

cd public_html

Bila anda akan mentransfer file berupa file binnary seperti JPG, GIF, PNG, MP3 dll, anda harus memberikan perintah

bin

dan bila file yang akan anda transfer berupa file ASCII seperti html, php, htm, txt maka anda harus memberikan perintah

Kemudian anda tinggal memberikan perintah put untuk mengirim file anda, contoh mengirim file index.html

put index.html

Anda juga bisa mengirimkan sekaligus beberapa file dengan perintah mput. misalnya anda akan mengirim semua file yang berakhiran .html berikan perintah :

mput *.html

Demikian sedikit informasi penggunaan FTP command line.
anda juga bisa mengambil file dari server dengan perintah-perintah FTP yang sudah disediakan, untuk lebih lengkapnya gunakan perintah HELP untuk lebih lengkapnya.
